Check Oversees Car Show Websites
The 2009 new car make and model of your dreams might not
yet have premiered in the
United States
. But, many manufacturers may have already unveiled it overseas in
Great Britain
,
Germany
and
Japan
. Becoming a regular on the car show websites dedicated to the new car models can
give you a head start on your car comparison shopping. It may also tip you off to
some changes to the model that might be contrary to those described in your favorite
car magazine.
Research the Manufacturer’s Track Record
Researching the manufacturer’s track record with respect
to recalls, warranty work, safety ratings and fuel economy is a must. This is especially
true if you are switching brands and your 2009 new car is not made by the same manufacturer
as what you are driving now. For example, this past year there have been quite a
few manufacturers that have been plagued by recalls and warranty work. Thus, this
does not bode well for the next generation of cars by those manufacturers.
Build a Relationship with a Car Dealership
Even if your new car is not even on the American market,
it is a good idea to build a working relationship with a car dealership that will
be carrying it. This is especially important if the 2009 new car you are eyeing
is either a luxury model or fuel efficient. Those car models often sell like hotcakes.
Luxury vehicles generally are made in smaller quantities, thus making them harder
to purchase without being included on a waiting list.
In addition, fuel efficient cars may become so popular that without
a waiting list there is no way to get one.
Commit To the Buy
While a working relationship with a car dealership may put you toward the top of
any waiting lists for a 2009 new car, it also requires a firm commitment to buy
from you. At the same time, this allows you to talk deal even before the car is
on the lot. In case of any unforeseen price increases, you are generally protected
since the dealership is going to honor the commitment they made to you – if it is
in writing.
